Camp chair, hammock chair, folding chair, rocking chair, bleacher seat, seat cushion, gel cushions….
AND THE LIST GOES ON AND ON!! I’m pretty sure one of the first things a new volleyball mom asks is what kind of chair is best. And I have to tell you, there is no right answer. For Gym A its one thing, for Gym B its another, for a travel tournament maybe something totally different. This is why the back of my car looks like the chair section of the local sporting goods store most nights. I have them all back there and I just pick and choose based on where I am on that day.
I have found a couple of favorites, though, so I will share…
A tripod style camp chair is possibly my new favorite. It folds up nice and tiny and fits in a backpack. It is low to the ground and that scares some people…but I assure you even the husband sits comfortably in one of these. It folds up and fits in the backpack that I take with me into the tournament so it’s one less thing in my hands, but I can pull it out if there aren’t enough seats around the court or when I go find a corner in the convention center during the off games. Last weekend, we even took our chairs to the park across from the convention center and simply soaked up some fresh air and sunshine when the girls weren’t playing. So easy to use and not nearly as burdensome as the big camp chairs!
What I use:
My other one that lives in the car and I will pull out regularly is the simple seat cushion. I used to have other styles of bleacher seats- the one with the metal frame and the big cushy one that you carry like a backpack, but in the end this is my go to for a bleacher seat. Okay, there’s no back support but I either try to sit on the back row of the bleachers so I have the wall for support or I just deal with it. At the very least the TUSH IS SAVED! At high school games, we found the bigger bleacher seats are way too big for the bleachers anyway so these work fabulously! The gelly inside is kind of amazing and I was surprised how comfortable it really is.
